Casuguran, Eastern Samar – In an emotional Facebook post, local resident Carmi Macapagao, writing under the banner of “Unity and Faith,” has reached out to both a mining company and government officials on the 22nd day of an ongoing community effort. The post, which has garnered significant attention, highlights the desperation felt by many in the area.
Macapagao directly addressed the EMRC (Eastern Samar Mining Corporation), expressing the community’s hope that the company still has a remaining commitment to its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The plea is for the company to provide support and aid to the residents of Casuguran, including its own workers. Macapagao framed this as an appeal for the well-being of the community and a call for EMRC to uphold its responsibilities as a mining operation.
The post also made a strong appeal to several high-ranking government officials, including Governor Ben Evardone, Mayor Annaliza Kwan, Congressmen Nonoy Libanan and Sheen Gonzales, as well as various government agencies such as the DENR Eastern Visayas, EMB Central Office, and MGB Regional Office No. VIII.
Macapagao emphasized that the people would not be making such a significant stand in “Area 12” if the issue weren’t of extreme importance. The post concluded with a heartfelt plea for the officials and agencies to listen to and assist the community. The specific nature of the stand in “Area 12” and the challenges faced by residents were not detailed in the post.
As of now, there has been no official statement from the EMRC or the government officials mentioned in the post. The community of Casuguran continues to hope for a resolution that will bring support and a focus on responsible practices to their area.
