The Propaedeutic Stage is the new and mandatory first phase of Catholic seminary formation, established by the Vatican in the 2016 Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis (The Gift of the Priestly Vocation).
“Propaedeutic” means preparatory—a sacred year set apart to build the foundation of a seminarian’s life before entering formal philosophical studies.
At the Nativity of Our Lady College Seminary, this formation year is dedicated to strengthening the human and spiritual dimensions of each man called to discern. Through deepened life of prayer, fraternity and community living; guided study and reflection; and growing familiarity with the local and universal Church
This is a year of transition—from ordinary life to a life intentionally shaped by Christ.
